The first iterations of this song were born during the pandemic when Chris created tracks for his mom to recite Spanish poems. The track "Fiesta" had subtle musical and lyrical references to Celia Cruz. As people collectively underwent evolutions during this isolating time, so did this song. Months later, Chris shared a slower and more sensual version of the song intended to be a B-side version, closer to the style of a steamy Claudja Barry hit. Something resonated, so Matt started singing melodies and charting the song's arrangement. Eventually, there was a song with only fragments of meaningless lyrics. It wasn't until La Cita traveled to Puerto Rico to celebrate a friend's birthday at a group wellness retreat in the lush mountains of Utuado that they found inspiration for the song's meaning. One day, a card reader at the retreat asked Matt to pick a card, which turned out to be the King of Hearts. The reader said the card symbolized abundant love, wisdom, and humble leadership. But he said to be careful because sometimes, giving this love to just one person is hard. The King of Hearts can immensely nourish -- or hurt. This feedback created a shortcut to deeper introspection and reflection over the retreat for both Chris and Matt, where, as part of the retreat, they attended various wellness workshops, including breath classes, spiritual gatherings, and conscious intimacy workshops. The culmination of these activities led to the song's sensual lyrics and androgynous intonations exploring the edges of life, the layered duality of a soul, and the mystery of personal evolution.
