*SONG FROM THE ARCHIVES* Tears Me Apart is a song that I wrote and produced in 2013 about the anger I felt over a broken friendship. This is the instrumental. I actually vividly remember creating this track, so I guess I'll tell the story... I was in my DAW playing around with chord progressions and switching through sounds when I came across this buzzy sound that you hear when the beat first drops. I hadn't made any drum sounds for the song yet, and I just played with that buzzy sound using different chords. The buzzy sound sounded... sickly...? Sick and tired... pissed off... Then I started going through kicks and layered a few together, and after that I found an old-school sounding snare. I made a very *pocket* beat with them. Just a very... BOOM... POP! ..B-BOOM... POP! ..And then I sequenced that drum beat with the tired-and-pissed buzzy sound, and played it back. As soon as I heard it played back, I stood up from my chair and just let the newborn piece of music start speaking to me. The track was disgusted and exhausted. I started remembering how I felt when my ex-friends ghosted me, only after hearing a rumor about me. Didn't even come to me and ask about it. Just... gone. I had never started writing lyrics so fast up until that point. The lyrics just poured onto the page. I knew it was going to have to be a rap, because I had an entire RANT inside me. As I was writing the first verse, the sadness came. That sadness was at the root of it all. Yes I was angry... but I was angry because I was heartbroken, and I knew things didn't have to turn out that way. That's when I added the weak and airy piano, and the song took and emotional turn. The rest of the creation of the song was me continuing to explore this juxtaposition between sadness, anger, and knowing that I would eventually need to just let it all go and move on.
