It’s one of those strange nights at Cumberland Farms when Rapper Abunai walks in. This time, he’s wearing a see-through plastic cape and a chef’s hat. He looks like he hasn’t slept in days, with wide, wild eyes and a sticky jar in his hand. As he approaches the counter, he reverently places a Cosmic Brownie on a napkin, as if it’s some kind of sacred offering. Before I can say a word, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out… a can of whipped cream. But he doesn’t put it on the brownie like any normal person would. No, instead, he sprays it all over his hand and smears it across his face like it’s shaving foam, mumbling something about the “blessing of the cosmic brownie.” Once he’s “prepared” himself, he steps up to the counter, looks at the Cosmic Brownie, and, with complete seriousness, pulls a small bag from his cape filled with… gummy worms coated in something slimy. Without a word, he starts spreading the gummy worms all over the brownie, like he’s creating some high-end, otherworldly dish. Then, in a move that nobody could have seen coming, he tilts his head back and, yes, begins eating the gummy worms straight off the brownie… hands-free. He hunches over the counter like an animal, whipped cream dribbling from his mouth as he devours the worms one by one, a mixture of spit and cream starting to drip down onto the counter. At this point, I can’t look away, even though I’m feeling more and more disgusted. But just when I think it can’t get any worse, Rapper Abunai lets out a massive burp—so loud it actually makes a bag of chips on the shelf burst. And, as if it’s the most normal thing in the world, he grabs a rag from the counter, wipes his mouth, and looks at me with a sinister grin: “This is the Cosmic Brownie Ritual.” In shock, I manage to say, “Dude… that rag is for cleaning the store, not your mouth.” But he just shrugs, picks up what’s left of the brownie, and, without a word, heads out of the store, leaving a sticky trail of whipped cream and gummy worms in his wake.
