I wrote this when I was a kid, 21 maybe. The acoustic is tuned to a D Tuning. We recorded it in '77 at John Stewart's Studio in Edington, ME, out on Rt. 9 heading east out of Bangor. John ran the board. It was an 8 track setup. Bob Elie came in on drums and brought a Bass player friend of his from Lewiston. We can't remember who he was. A serious drag as he did a great job and I'd love to give him credit. Harry King came in to play keys but not on this track. Mark 'Guitar' Miller played electric guitar and slide but was not there for the beds. He came in a couple weeks later to put down his tracks. I did the mix with John and have been tortured by it for 45 years till technology opened the door to separate the tracks so I could isolate the vocal and drop it into the mix properly. The vocal was always too loud. I was also able to clean up the Bass and add a little snap to the Drums. All in all it's a solid track and it's a great relief to get it out there after 47 years. It couldn't be better, frankly. It was done and performed organically, with real emotion and purpose and was written by a kid who's whole life was in front of him and he was working out how he was gonna live it . .
