It was a beautiful day, but isn't everyday when you'r a child. At least thats what i believed before it happened. I had my favorite starters north carolina blue and purple fit on. My red and black chicago bulls basketball. the air was filled with my families laughter and joy. The sent of grilled burgers and hot dogs covered any other smell on the street. California love had just came on the radio and Tupac was my favorite. I was so happy it felt like my heart was going to explode with joy. Suddenly i see my fathers smile fall off his face. As if it stolen, eyes wide and fixed. I didn't know the world could move so slow, while it happened so fast. The sounds of laugher died, replaced by screams of agony. Pain filled the air that was just thick with bliss. I couldn't hear Tupac over the sirens and police scanners. All of my family was on the ground. Some out of fear, some out of safety. My father was on the ground covering my little sister. My aunt was on the ground, on her knees screaming to God. The word why still echo's in my ears to this day. I couldn't understand, i'm thirty now and i still don't. As a child i lost everything that day. Religion, Faith, Belief, Trust, and gained more fear then i knew what to do with. I never admitted it, But i hated my cousins everyday since. Blood still stains that side walk there is seguin texas. Their brother died, because of a stupid obsession with trapping and false power. He wasn't involved, nor would he be the last. Like a curse sickness, prison, poverty, domestic violence, drugs, suicide, and homicide would haunt my family. Ever since, I've wanted to hunt down change as if it were my pray. Now that im a man i can and i do tirelessly. However as a child, all i could do was PRAY.
