.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. "Cháchara" is a project that aims to uncover the hidden music within the everyday sounds of the city of Cali, Colombia. We drew inspiration from a variety of musicians and their composition processes. On one hand, we were inspired by Steve Reich's work, "Different Trains," in which he recorded interviews with Holocaust survivors at a train station. He then created tape loops from these interviews, repeating them to create a psychoacoustic effect in which the repetition of "non-musical" sounds gives the illusion of melodies. This psychoacoustic effect was also explored by composers like Pierre Schaeffer and Iannis Xenakis during the concrete music movement of the 1940s. On the other hand, we take inspiration from hip-hop culture and the technique of "sampling," which involves cutting and altering parts of existing songs to create entirely new music, a form of sonic collage. This technique remains a fundamental part of modern music production. 'Hey Señora! (No me ha pagado)' is the most energetic song on the entire album! It's based on the sounds of the Boulevard del Rio and Calle del Pecado, two places that exemplify the anarchic nature of the party scene in Cali. You can hear guasás, cowbells, timbales, motorcycle horns, people shouting, drunks, snippets of salsa songs, and once again, 'el Gomelo' in all his glory shouting the title of this piece.
