In 8th Grade we had an assignment : analyse the lyrics to your favourite song, and present it to the class. As an immigrant classical piano kid, this assignment was totally lost on me. The edgy girls in class however all chose the same song : Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings. I swear to god my brain chemically transformed in that moment. I could not believe the aggressive angsty beautiful sound filling the room, and will never forget the feeling of hearing it for the first time. It's 100% responsible for me picking up an electric guitar and writing songs, and embarking on a total obsession with popular music. Sonically "so fucking you" is my tribute to that moment in time, wrapped in my 2024 aesthetic. Written/produced during a particularily low moment of disillusionment with the music industry - and giving absolutely zero fucks that day - I sang it myself.
