As producers we spend our lives creating for other artists, but this project is an opportunity to make something unabashedly 100% me - a tech-obsessed 90s kid, perpetually torn between analog nostalgia and unhinged digitalism. Every choice is made with fetishized intention - I obsessively collect vintage PCs, Retro DIY projects (MiSTer FPGA, RetroWave OPL3 etc), and sound-chip emulations, and they are all put to use here in hackish and creative ways. Grunge guitars sampled into an Amiga 500, PC SoundBlaster synths decayed through my 80s cassette deck, a Super Nintendo vocoded with dial-up internet screeches, Napster-era low-bitrate MP3 breakbeats are all in the sauce. And of course, Grimes AI on vocals. Even the visuals are AI-generated, degraded to VHS, then digitally glitched by injecting random data in a hex editor. The lights "flipped on" for me at age 14, and my aim was to "overlap the 1996 and 2023 datasets" - providing a stark reminder that as AI permeates our lives, we become the analog synth.
