SEA OF WHITE (SLOW VERSION) I sent the original song into my Tascam 424 Portastudio onto cassette and pitched it wayyy down for maximum vibes. <3 Thanks all, original story of the song below. ______________________________________________________________________________ In 2018 I had released 3 songs under my new moniker Divorce Court. I was writing my 4th single, unsure of what it would be about or what it would be called. I had a rough demo of sampled chords and drums playing in my headphones on a long flight from Utah to Florida. It was the middle of the day and I was alone sitting in the window seat. The sun was shining and I was looking down upon a bed of the fluffiest, most beautiful clouds I had ever seen. I was feeling a bit introspective (travel and flights always puts me in that place), and my mind was wandering around every aspect of my own life and the current state of the world. I was thinking a lot about interconnectedness and how we treat each other. I wrote down one line, which ended up becoming the first lyrics of this song... "this sea of white, won't support us all.." It represented beauty and worry at the same time. How can we all co-exist comfortably on this planet? How can we all feel supported by each other and experience the beauty around us? The next line says "I'll be there soon, to catch you when you fall..." It's this idea that no matter what happens, somebody will be there for you. Even if it's not the person that you expect. These two lines sat in my notes app for a few months and I continued to tweak the track endlessly. The next thing I know, I am standing in an old church in Idaho at my Grandfather's funeral standing over his casket. As I examined his frail structure, I thought about how strange life can be; managing these bodies temporarily, and endlessly worrying until one day it all ends. It didn't even look like him tbh.. without his spirit lighting up his eyes - his movements and way of speaking. It was a lot at once, so I went out to get some air and jotted down some thoughts which ended up being the next two lines of the songs.. "break through the clouds, gazing down on you.. empty and still, a vessel we forget." This concept of bodies or vessels just being vehicles for experiences hit me really profoundly that day. In the chorus, the song just repeats the words, "I just wanna get away.." I guess the point of this whole story is - no matter what, you are never alone, and things that seem overwhelming might not be so bad in the grand scheme of things. Much love, Lynden Divorce Court
