Hey! I'm a multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist. I've been making music in the closet for 20 years but am finally getting out there. Here's what Jacob Collier had to say about my recent cover video of his single "Little Blue": "Devin - I am blown away! This is absolutely MAGNIFICENT! Loads of love from London ❤️" - Jacob Collier ( here's my Little Blue video: https://youtu.be/hevufshFSos ) I'm deeply inspired by the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, Studio Ghibli / Miyazaki music, Celtic folk music, deep house beats (e.g. Kiasmos), and also jazz (I'm originally a jazz saxophonist). This song, In Our Bones, came to me at the piano late at night, as most of my songs do these days. The piano part came first. For a while this was just an instrumental groove song, but as I sat with it, it just really started calling for this ancestral Earth connection, like my ancestors were singing and chanting and dancing around the fire in a secret grove deep in the old-growth forest blanketed with moss. So I started writing some lyrics.... First came the intro verse ("Far away / To the east..."), then the chorus ("We feel it in our bones..."), then the chant, then the other verses, and finally the short chanting break before the bridge (at 2:40), which goes: Érathen taoh terath miç nuvenáth Friya muith éragathiç niranath do It's a made-up language, inspired by Tolkien's Elvish languages. I wanted to express this idea: The magic of the Earth is inside of us All we have to do is listen This is a cinematic deep folk track with vocals, drums, beats, chants, keys, guitar, Irish flute, hammered dulcimer, cittern, bodhrán, mandolin, saxophone, and more. This was a hugely complex arrangement. 270 tracks in my DAW! All instrumentation, vocals, recording, mixing and mastering done by me in my bedroom studio in the Maine woods.
