What sort of world will the next generation inherit from us? Will governments and powerful corporations begin to prioritise the environmental threat before it’s too late? Are we reaching a point in history where the decision to not have children might be kinder than to risk bringing them into a world with a collapsing climate? As I’ve considered these questions at certain times in my life, I came up with the concept of writing a song to my imaginary, future daughter. It’s sort of an apology to her for deciding not to give her a life. I wanted to explain my decision to her and hope that she might have understood and forgiven me.
