My first day traveling to the UK, my ears were cold. I bought a beanie and gravitated towards the pastel-purple one. My dear british friend said, "how cute, lavender in London!". With no hesitation I coined the phrase in my Notes app (amongst countless other random names and phrases). This was my virgin trip to Europe/UK. After traveling through the Swiss mountains and flirting with the palpable history in London, I had no doubts I would naturally be inspired. Within a couple weeks of arriving home I sat down to play around with my guitar, there was no pretense. xxx creation xxx The chord progression was first to arrive. I think I was purposely fooling around in a key I don't usually gravitate towards, it landed pretty quickly and felt very animated. I knew I was in the mindset to turn it into something. I tried the cymbals on the upbeat and didn't look back. It just worked. I was itching to write a song with a groove like such anyway. I love the hypnotizing drone bass on this track.. I did have another great bass line in the chamber - it danced with the kick. On paper it probably would have worked better but I was at the point in the creative process where I was exerting excess energy and I knew I should just move on and let the track be what it is. The introduction is a combination of a rain storm I recorded when I was in Hilo, Hawaii, & a train crossing from San Diego, CA. I accidentally recorded the latter sound through my AirPods so it came out funky. But I liked it. After my first session of building the song out, I had to name it before saving. I looked through my "list" of names. It was as if 'Lavender In London' was 10x the font size to the rest of the list. It was a no brainer. I knew I was writing an abstract story in regards to the structure of this song. I enjoyed it and had no interest in re-working it to make 'more sense'. Once I was finished & brought it to The Fund to mix, I could tell they were absolutely ITCHING to re-work it to be more digestible. But this was a time where I wanted it to stay 100% 'weird'. They did help me build a bridge to literally "bridge" the two parts of the songs before the main vocals come in. Joshua_Squashua on Twitter did me a huge favor and commissioned the cover art. He is a true artist, I love(d) working with him. That's the birth of my psychedelic-beach-indie-feel good track. Thanks for listening :)
