From a set of Early Italian sonatas in the "modern" style by the early Baroque Venetian composer, Dario Castello. The set of 15 sonatas is for varied but undesignated instrumentations, including violins, sackbutts, viols, cornetts, and shawms. This first sonata is a favourite of mine, for an unspecified treble instrument and continuo. Often heard with recorder, I do prefer it on violin!
